Der Tempel des Apollo, direkt an der n\u00f6rdlichen Spitze der Insel auf dem Akropolis H\u00fcgel des antiken Rhodos gelegen, ist ein Tempel Dorischen Stils aus der Periode der Hellenen (3. \u2013 2. Jahrhundert vor Christus) welcher von der Italienischen Schule der Arch\u00e4ologie von Athen zwischen 1912 \u2013 1945 ausgegraben wurde. Besucher k\u00f6nnen die wenigen noch vorhandenen S\u00e4ulen des Tempels als Hinweis auf seinen urspr\u00fcnglichen monumentalen Charakter mit den umliegenden antiken Ruinen vor Ort, gemeinsam mit dem antiken Stadium von Rhodos mit seinem nahegelegenen kleinen Theater, bewundern.<\/p>\n

Das Gebiet in dem sich die antike Akropolis von Rhodos befindet wird Monte Smith genannt, benannt nach dem Englisch Napoleonischen Admiral William Sidney Smith. Einige Historiker der Neuzeit behaupten, dass sich der Koloss von Rhodos, einer der sieben Weltwunder, viel eher hier am Monte Smith oder in der Altstadt von Rhodos befand, und nicht am Eingang zum Hafen von Rhodos, wie dies oft abgebildet wird.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
